What to Expect at Your Child’s First Class at KDF

Walking into the studio for the very first time is a big moment. For some children it is filled with excitement and curiosity, while for others it comes with butterflies in their stomach. As parents, you want to know that your child is stepping into a safe and welcoming place where they can grow, learn, and shine. At KDF Dance and Gym, we love helping families feel at ease as they begin their journey with us.

Here is what you can expect at your child’s first class.

A Warm Welcome

From the moment you step inside our studio, you will be greeted by friendly faces. Our staff is here to answer questions, help your child find their classroom, and make sure you both feel comfortable. The first class is all about settling in, so there is no need to worry if your dancer feels a little shy. We encourage smiles, reassurance, and patience as they discover

this new experience.

What to Wear

For dance classes, most children wear a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes, while gymnasts usually wear a leotard or fitted activewear. Hair pulled back keeps little ones focused and comfortable. If you do not have these items yet, don’t stress. Comfortable clothes they can move in are just fine for the first class.

Inside the Classroom

Our instructors know that first days can be big days. They keep the class lighthearted,

encouraging, and structured so children feel safe and included. There will be music, movement, and a little bit of silliness to help everyone relax. Most importantly, your child will begin learning the basics while having fun.

Building Confidence from Day One

The first class is not about perfection. It is about joy, discovery, and creating a positive start to your child’s dance or gymnastics journey. As they begin to learn steps, routines, and skills, they will also build confidence that will carry into every part of their life.

Parents in the Lobby

You are welcome to wait in our lobby and watch class via our monitors. We find that children often focus best when parents are nearby but not in the classroom itself. For some, it may take a class or two to feel comfortable. That is perfectly normal, and our instructors are experienced in gently guiding each child at their own pace.
